"Over Optimization Penalty" (abgek. "OOP", dt. "Überoptimierungs-Strafe") bezeichnet den Fall, dass Webseiten eine "Bestrafung" erfahren, wenn sie zu sehr für Suchmaschinen optimiert sind. Der Begriff wurde in Diskussionsforen sehr populär, nachdem Google zum Jahreswechsel 2003/2004 seine Algorithmen geändert hat (siehe z.B.
Florida-Update). Ob es tatsächlich eine Bestrafung seitens Google für die übermäßige Anwendung von Optimierungs-Maßnahmen gibt, ist allerdings umstritten. Meine persönliche Einschätzung ist, dass Google die Wirkung bestimmter "On the Page"-Optimierungs-Faktoren teilweise erheblich gesenkt hat und dies als Bestrafung missinterpretiert wird. Von einer Bestrafung kann aus meiner Sicht nur gesprochen werden, wenn Suchmaschinen Webseiten wegen Spam z.B. die Link Popularität entziehen ("PageRank 0" bzw. "Bad Rank") oder eine Website ganz aus dem Index entfernen.
